Patrick A. Tinnell Memorial Sports Complex

Dedication Honors Fallen Local Hero

Ceremony Begins Promptly at 10 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 19, 2013

On October 19, Lake Havasu City dignitaries will dedicate the new Patrick A. Tinnell Memorial Sports Complex with a full military honor guard to commemorate the life of BMX biker and U.S. Army SPC Patrick Tinnell, killed in action in April 2006 at the age of 25. The Street League Skateboarding-certified skate park will then immediately open to avid skateboard, BMX bike and scooter competitors who will crowd around the facility’s signature attraction: a giant replica of Tinnell’s U.S. Army helmet. The new park is nearly the size of a football field with million dollar lake and mountain views. Confirmed guests include Street League Skateboarding founder, pro skater and MTV star Rob Dyrdek, Street League pros, Manny Santiago and Chaz Ortiz, as well as local legendary Pro BMXer Mat Olson.  Pro Skate Teams  Bones and Kr3w will be performing  skateboarding demonstrations throughout the day.

The state-of-the-art course is constructed by California Skateparks and inspired by Street League Skateboarding’s “skate plaza-style” course at the 2013 X Games at Foz do Iguaçu, Brazil. This will be Arizona’s largest skatepark at nearly 40,000 square feet, and serve as a safe venue for youth to exercise and socialize.
