The Tinnell Memorial Sports Park Committee and the City of Lake Havasu is excited to announce that through the Request for Qualifications process, California Skateparks has been selected as the Design/ Build team to complete the design and construction of the Tinnell Memorial Sports Park.

California Skateparks is a leading skatepark construction and design firm based in California. They are globally know in the skateboarding industry for their innovate designs, and construction techniques in building skateparks. Some of their event parks include Street League, X Games, and Maloof Money Cup.

The Tinnell Committee considers this a milestone in the effort to build the sports park to honor Spec. Patrick Tinnell a local young man and BMX rider who was killed in 2006 while on deployment in Iraq. Also honored within the park is Colin Sasseen a local youth that lost his life in a tragic skateboarding accident in 2007. Colin’s dream at the time of his death was to see a safe new park where he and his fellow skateboarders, and BMX riders could enjoy their sport. Once built the Tinnell Memorial Sports Park will be located in Rotary Park, and will be Arizona’s largest multi-use sports parks for skateboarding, BMX, and Scooters. The Committee is also looking at incorporating a memorial to all those from Lake Havasu City who have given their lives during this current war, and will be looking to our local Veterans for input.

Although this is a major step forward for the project the Tinnell Committee will continue to raise funds that will go directly towards the cost of construction. There are several ways the community in both the private and business sectors can help. Over the next few weeks the committee will be reaching out to the local contractors who have expressed interest in the project through in-kind ways. There is a lot of work to be done and if anyone would like to help you can contact Rachelle Duncan at tinnellmemorial@gmail.com. A contractors meeting will be scheduled in the near future for those interested in finding out how they can help with the construction phase. Every penny counts and several local businesses have donation boxes, so anything you can spare is appreciated.
